The first full week of August brings Maryland residents dashes of sunshine, humidity, and even more chances for rain and thunderstorms.

Temperatures are forecast to get as low as 69 degrees and as high as 91 degrees through the week. The lowest temperature reading is expected Monday night, after possible storms blow into town.

The National Weather Service says commuters may see showers and thunderstorms make their first appearance during the Monday afternoon commute.

Drivers are urged to be cautious as wind gusts and the potential for flooding may pick up. The region saw severe thunderstorms on Sunday that produced more than 3 inches of rainfall within a few hours and prompted flash flood warnings.

The strongest chances for thunderstorms return Wednesday and Thursday. NWS forecasters say storms could develop after 11 a.m. Wednesday and go through the night, with return appearances after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say temperatures on both days will range between the high 80s and low 90s, a factor that will contribute to a more unstable atmosphere.

"The heat will be accompanied by the muggy air that sometimes fits the misunderstood description of the 'dog days' of August," AccuWeather reports.

Another high chance for storms is forecast for Saturday, after residents see temperatures get into the 90s.

A hazardous weather outlook issued by the NWS states residents could see "damaging wind gusts and isolated instances of flash flooding" anytime from Thursday to Saturday.
