Tornado Watch Issued As Storms Move Into MD: See Latest Forecast

The National Weather Service warns that thunderstorms headed to Maryland could potentially produce "a couple of tornadoes."

Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are forecast for Maryland on Thursday, with the strongest activity expected during the afternoon commute.

The National Weather Service said in its latest update that "numerous thunderstorms" are expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Officials warn incoming storm cells will bring damaging wind gusts that have the potential to develop "a couple of tornadoes, especially near northeast Maryland."

Urban flash flooding may occur, according to the NWS, which notes the highest risk is around the Baltimore area.

Next Chance For Storms?

Marylanders can expect warm and humid conditions ahead of the incoming storms. Temperatures will range between 80 and 90 degrees before dropping down into the 60s.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious after the thunderstorms, as authorities warn patchy fog conditions will likely develop.

The next chance for stormy weather emerges Friday and sticks around through the weekend.

Thursday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 84. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9 p.m. Patchy fog between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. North wind around 6 mph.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 69. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers likely before 11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
