Damaging Winds, Tornadoes Possible As Storms Target MD: See Timing

The National Weather Service warns that thunderstorms headed to Maryland could potentially produce "a couple of tornadoes."

Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are forecast for Maryland on Thursday, with the strongest activity expected during the afternoon commute.

The National Weather Service said in its latest update that "numerous thunderstorms" are expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Officials warn incoming storm cells will bring damaging wind gusts that have the potential to develop "a couple of tornadoes, especially near northeast Maryland."

Urban flash flooding may occur, according to the NWS, which notes the highest risk is around the Baltimore area.

Marylanders can expect warm and humid conditions ahead of the incoming storms. Temperatures will range between 80 and 90 degrees before dropping down into the 60s.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious after the thunderstorms, as authorities warn patchy fog conditions will likely develop.

The next chance for stormy weather emerges Friday and sticks around through the weekend.
