MD House Fire Kills Cat, Displaces 5 People After Causing $230K In Damages

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, MD — Five people were displaced and a pet cat was killed Friday after large fire broke out inside a home in Sudlersville.

A release from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal states the incident was reported Friday around 1:30 p.m. at 1116 Peters Corner Road in the Sudlersville community of Queen Anne's County.

One person was evaluated at the site for minor fire-related injuries. Authorities did not offer additional details.

The fire was first discovered in the interior living room area before spreading within the home, according to officials. Damage from the fire is estimated to be about $230,000.

The one-story home, according to the release, was not fitted with sprinklers or smoke alarms.

First responders were able to bring the flames under control within about 30 minutes. A total of 25 firefighters from the Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
