A popular frozen food sold at several major retailers is being recalled due to a possible health risk.

Champion Foods LLC, of New Boston, Michigan, voluntarily recalled its Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread because the product has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

The voluntary recall Friday is connected to a California Dairies Inc. milk powder recall, which also stems from salmonella problems.

"The recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that provides a seasoning blend used in our 5-cheese sauce blend," Champion officials said. "Routine testing conducted by the seasoning’s blend manufacturer prior to use in the production of the 5 Cheese Bread showed that the seasoning’s batches tested negative for salmonella; however, we are taking action out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers."

Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread is sold at retail and grocery stores nationwide, including Walmart, Target, Costco, Grocery Outlet, Jewel, PDI/Hy-Vee, Kroger, Meijer, Giant Landover, Schnucks, C&S, Bozzuto’s, Brookshire Grocery, Food City, KeHe, Lipari, Publix, Merchants Dis Hickory, River Valley, SpartanNash, Supervalu and UNFI.
