Annapolis Arts District Brings 16 Sculptures To City Streets For Year-Long Display

A year-long art exhibit starts this month in Annapolis. The display will feature 16 sculptures on city streets from a renowned artist.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A year-long art exhibit starts this month in Annapolis. The display will feature 16 steel sculptures on city streets. A slate of art talks and kids' workshops are also on tap.

The pieces all come from the late David Hayes, a renowned artist who has been featured in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and on a PBS special. So far, the projects are displayed at:

  • Banneker Douglass Museum
  • The People's Park
  • Stanton Community Center
  • Sir Speedy (Temporary location)
  • Graduate Annapolis
  • Engel & Völkers (Temporary Location)
  • Lemongrass
  • Maryland Cultural & Conference Center
  • Blum Senior Building
  • Maryland Hall
  • Wiley H. Bates Middle School
  • Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library
  • Eastport Democratic Club

The kickoff party is on Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Maryland Cultural & Conference Center, also known as MC3. The outdoor venue is located at 3 Park Place No. 4.

All are welcome to attend the free event that will have snacks, drinks, sculptures and live music. The exhibit organizer, the Annapolis Arts District, asked visitors to RSVP at this link. Though tickets are complimentary, a $10 pass buys two drinks while supporting happenings and educational opportunities during the display.

"The Annapolis Arts District amplifies the arts and is proud to bring you the David Hayes exhibit," the group said in a newsletter. "We are grateful to those that have contributed to this exhibit and the programming that will be centered around the exhibit over the next year."
