2 Sexual Assaults Prompt Police Warning on Strangers

Anne Arundel County Police urge residents not to get into cars with strangers after two sexual assaults by victims who accepted rides.

MILLERSBURG, MD — Don't accept rides from strangers. Anne Arundel County Police are reiterating that warning after two unrelated sexual assaults in the northern part of the county where both suspects were unknown drivers picked up their victims.

The assaults occurred in the Brooklyn and Curtis Bay areas of Anne Arundel County. The two cases involve separate suspects and are not believed to be related. In both assaults the victims were picked up in nearby Baltimore City and got into vehicles driven by people the victims didn't know, police said.

The first incident occurred about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, near Cedar Hill Lane and Snow Hill Lane at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn. The victim was picked near Fourth Avenue and Washburn Avenue in Baltimore City and driven to the location where she was sexually assaulted.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 5’7”, and stocky build. He was wearing a light-colored, short-sleeve polo style shirt with blue stripes, khaki shorts, and white and red Nike sneakers. He appeared to be between 30-40 years old and he wore prescription glasses. He was balding on the top of his head. The suspect in that case was driving a dark-colored SUV.

The second assault happened about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, near Stahl Pointe Road and Ordinance Road, Baltimore (Anne Arundel County). In that case the victim was picked up in the area of Fairhaven Avenue and Elmtree Street in the Baltimore City section of Curtis Bay and driven to a location where the sexualt assault took place.

Police say the suspect was described as a white man in his late 30s with very short blond hair and a beard. He was driving an older model dark-colored pick-up truck with a silver toolbox attached.

Although the victims didn't know their assailants, in both cases the victims voluntarily entered the vehicles and drove away with the suspects. Police are reminding residents not to solicit or accept rides from people they do not know.
