Hobby Lobby, Wegmans, Container Store: Businesses Annapolis Readers Want In Town

Patch asked. You answered. Find out which businesses your neighbors would love to see open in Annapolis.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Is there a certain kind of business that is missing in Annapolis? A type of restaurant you can't find in town? An activity that you have to travel miles away for? Or is there another specialty store you could use?

Annapolis Patch recently asked our Facebook followers which businesses they want to see open in town. Lots of you had food in mind, with suggestions for both chain restaurants and regional eateries. Grocery stores were also mentioned repeatedly, plus a few other topics.

One reader made a plea for upscale retailer Bloomingdale's, another wants a Hobby Lobby, and a couple of folks asked for a World Market. "The Container Store or Hobby Lobby! It would be great in the now vacant HH Gregg store near Trader Joe's!" wrote Jenna R. Turley.

Types of food that are needed ranged from Korean and Ethiopian to tapas, pierogies and more vegan restaurants, plus a "true local brewery." Oh, and a good butcher.

And then there was a whole sidebar on Dairy Queen, which a reader requested. That earned a reply of "There is one in the mall outside of Macy's." But that was too far for the reader. Another chimed in with, "Yes. One not in the mall."

If Annapolis had a Soul Cycle, as one person requested, you could then have a place to burn off all those Dairy Queen calories.

You told us, and we rounded up the most popular responses. In no order, here’s what readers said:

  • Container Store
  • Wegmans
  • In & Out Burger
  • Sweetgreen
  • Jamba Juice
  • Cava
  • Harris Teeter
  • Mom's Organic Market

A couple of residents suggested changes to downtown specifically. "Convert the Market House into a restaurant with outdoor seating," suggested one reader. While another shared, "A bakery with cafe on Main Street please."
