8-Year-Old Charged With Theft After Stealing Packages: Police
An Annapolis 8-year-old and two teens were charged as juveniles for stealing packages. FBI data reveals an increase in youth arrests.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — An 8-year-old girl was charged as a juvenile with theft after she and a 14-year-old and 15-year-old stole packages from outside people's homes in the 700 block of Shelton Avenue, authorities said. The kids' actions were noticed by someone in the neighborhood who saw the youths and notified Annapolis Police.
The three children were located by Annapolis police officers and all three were charged as juveniles with theft, then released to a guardian, according to a police report.
Data from the FBI shows that from 2013 to 2018, 30,467 children younger than the age of 10 were arrested in the U.S. For children between the ages of 10 to 12, the number jumps to 266,321 arrested across the country during the same six-year timespan, according to the FBI data.

The data also showed that in 2018, 155 children age 10 and younger were arrested for weapons possession, 22 for rape, 11 for robbery, 56 for arson and 289 for larceny and theft, including 15 for vehicle theft.
