New Publisher Takes Over Popular Annapolis Newsletter

A popular Annapolis newsletter with thousands of subscribers is now under new management, with plans for more original reporting being eyed.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Naptown Scoop, a popular daily newsletter that highlights the latest developments impacting the Annapolis community, is entering a new era.

Ryan Sneddon, who's headed the operation for the last six years, announced in Friday's newsletter that the outfit is switching hands and will be led by majority partner and publisher Charlie Szold.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed and no immediate changes to the newsletter were announced.

Sneddon did not detail what his next venture would be, although he mentioned in previous media interviews his interest in launching other newsletters.

The Announcement

Sneddon revealed he was first approached about selling the brand a year ago by Szold, but that it wasn't until May that he decided to take the offer under consideration.

"As you know, Naptown Scoop isn’t a typical media company. We don’t follow (or even know) AP style, we don’t believe 'if it bleeds, it leads,' and it’s our mission to make Annapolis a better place. I’m proud of the work we’ve done over the past 6 years and our positive impact on the community," Sneddon said.

"Not only did Charlie love how we’ve run Naptown Scoop, but he intends to lean even harder into putting community over profit. Through many conversations, I became convinced he was the best person to steward Naptown Scoop into the future."

New Guy In Town

Szold lives in Annapolis with his wife Anastasia and their two sons. He has a background in journalism, but spent the last eight years focusing on pedestrian infrastructure projects through the Precision Infrastructure Management company.

As a fellow Annapolitan, Szold said in a statement that he intends to incorporate "more original reporting, more voices, and more attention to the thousands of stories worth telling in Annapolis – mostly good, some bad."

Naptown Scoop was founded in 2020 and has since amassed a strong following in the community.
