Active Shooter Drill Planned At Naval Academy Jan 30

The U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Station Annapolis will conduct an active shooter drill Jan. 30; nearby residents may hear loud noises.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Residents near the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Station Annapolis may hear loud noises Tuesday, Jan. 30, when the facilities conduct an active shooter drill, city officials warn. Annapolis residents who live near the academy grounds on the north side of the Severn River should be aware of the exercise, authorities said.

During the drill, midshipmen, faculty and staff who are not in the immediate area of the active shooter will be directed to "shelter in place" for a short period of time. The direction to "shelter in place," and the notification that an “all clear” has been given will come from the Emergency Public Address System with an accompanying series of tones. The public address system will be fully used on both the Naval Academy side and on the North Severn side and will be heard throughout the area, according to a city news release.

You may see an increase in security personnel with tactical gear and equipment as well as military activity in and around the area.
