1. Anne Arundel Co. Community Comes Together To Save Steer From Slaughter (patch.com) — An Annapolis resident rallied more than 500 donors to raise over $25,000 and save Carl, a 1,400-pound steer, from slaughter at the Anne Arundel County Fair. Thanks to the community's quick support, Carl was purchased and will now live at the Wild Kid Acres petting zoo in nearby Edgewater instead of being sold for beef.
2. Man Stabbed While Sitting Inside Car In Annapolis: Police (patch.com) — Residents in Annapolis are being alerted after a man was stabbed while sitting in a car on the 900 block of Epping Forest Road Saturday night. Police say the victim, who knew the suspect, is hospitalized in stable condition as investigators search for the attacker and ask anyone with information to call county detectives or the anonymous tip line.
3. Annapolis Celebrates LGBTQ History Month with Parade and Festival (whatsupmag.com) — Downtown Annapolis will host the sixth annual Pride Parade and Festival on Saturday, Oct. 3, bringing road closures, parking changes, and free shuttles that residents should plan around. Events run from an 11 a.m. parade through downtown to an afternoon festival at Bates Athletic Complex, celebrating LGBTQ+ neighbors and supported by the city and Annapolis Pride volunteers.
4. Weekend Events in the Chesapeake: Sept. 25-27 (chesapeakefamily.com) — Annapolis families have several kid-friendly options Sept. 25–27, including a Mid-Autumn Festival program at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall and a big book fair at Annapolis Mall. You can also catch Ballet Theatre of Maryland dancers leading a La Sylphide-themed story time and movement class in the historic William Paca Garden.
5. Jury Finds Baltimore Man Guilty in March 2024 Kidnapping, Murder Outside an Annapolis Middle School (aacounty.org) — Annapolis residents are learning that a jury has found a Baltimore man guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and firearm charges in the March 2024 killing of David Winchester Jr. near Wiley H. Bates Middle School. Annapolis Police and Anne Arundel County prosecutors used surveillance and multi-agency cooperation to secure the conviction, with sentencing set for Dec. 30, 2026.
