UPDATE: Arrest Made in Annapolis Cab Driver Shooting, Victim in Critical Condition
A cab driver was shot and critically injured Thursday in Annapolis; an 18-year-old has been arrested for attempted murder.
(UPDATED 9 am Friday) ANNAPOLIS, MD — A cab driver remains in critical condition after he was shot Thursday evening, according to Annapolis Police, but authorities say they have the suspected shooter in custody. The driver called police at 5:51 p.m. from the area of Forest Hills Drive and Bricin Street to report he he had been shot.
The driver of the Green Taxi Cab is a 56-year-old man. He was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Officers at the shooting scene spotted a man who was wanted on an arrest warrant for an unrelated crime. While arresting the wanted man, police say Davonte Johnson, 18, of Annapolis attempted to push past officers to interfere with the arrest. Johnson refused police orders to back away and was arrested. As the investigation into the shooting continued, Johnson was identified as the person who shot the cabbie.

Annapolis Police have charged Johnson with attempted first-degree murder and 12 other charges related to the shooting. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.
"This police department and community will continue to be intolerant of this senseless violence," said Annapolis Police Chief Mike Pristoop on Friday. "Our officers made an immediate arrest with neighborhood cooperation, and will work with the State's Attorney's Office towards a successful prosecution."

"The quick response and arrest of the suspect shows our efforts to combat crime in Annapolis are working," Mayor Michael Pantelides added in a statement.

Candlelight Vigil for Homicide Victims
With shootings on the rise in Annapolis in 2016, a local pastor whose son was shot and killed has planned a candlelight vigil for Saturday, Dec. 31, to discuss the increase in gun violence. The Rev. Charles Carroll, pastor of the New Creation Deliverance Church, has organized the community event; his son, Charles Carroll Jr., was was one of the 10 homicide victims in Annapolis this year.
The vigil should begin at 6:30 p.m. and is expected to also feature Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides and the Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop, reports the newspaper. Prayer will be followed by discussion on how everyone in Annapolis can help prevent further violence.
