Annapolis Council Passes Resolution to Call for Medicare for All and Establishment of Commission on Universal Health Care

Annapolis, MD (July 20, 2021) – The Annapolis City Council passed a resolution at the July 12, 2021 session expressing support for the federal Medicare for All Act of 2021 (HR 1976, 117th Congress) and for the establishment of a Maryland Commission on Universal Health Care. The bill was sponsored by Alderman Rob Savidge (Ward 7) and co-sponsored by Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles (Ward 3) and Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson (Ward 4).

Annapolis, MD (July 20, 2021) – The Annapolis City Council passed a resolution at the July 12, 2021 session expressing support for the federal Medicare for All Act of 2021 (HR 1976, 117th Congress) and for the establishment of a Maryland Commission on Universal Health Care. The bill was sponsored by Alderman Rob Savidge (Ward 7) and co-sponsored by Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles (Ward 3) and Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson (Ward 4).

The bill states, “the Medicare for All Act of 2021 would provide coverage without copays, deductibles or other out-of-pocket costs… and would provide national health insurance for every person in the United States for all necessary medical care including prescription drugs; hospital, surgical and outpatient services; primary and preventive care; emergency services; reproductive care; dental and vision care; and long-term care.

The Medicare for All Act is a Federal bill that seeks to guarantee comprehensive healthcare to all U.S. residents. This resolution calls upon our Congressional delegation to work towards the enactment of the Act.
