ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD — The start date for the 2027-2028 academic year was cemented Wednesday in a unanimous vote by the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County.

Moving forward, students will start the school year on Aug. 30, 2027, and end on June 14, 2028.

Also included in the newly approved calendar are:

  • Three makeup days that can be used for inclement weather-related closures
  • Four non-instructional days after the end of each marking period, allowing teachers to complete grading
  • One non-instructional day in November for only elementary and middle schools
  • Closing all schools for Yom Kippur and Election Day
  • Closing high schools for graduation day

The three makeup dates were marked for June 12, 13 and 14. However, if they are not used, the school year will instead end on June 11.

In the event of severe weather prompting more than three days' worth of school closures, the school district will implement virtual learning days.
