Annapolis High Hires Football, Baseball Coaches

School officials fill the positions after the previous coaches of each team resigned last year after struggling seasons.

(AHS) recently announced it has hired new head coaches for its football and baseball teams.

Nick Good-Malloy, a 2001 AHS graduate, will take over as the football head coach and Gene Bowles will assume the top spot on the baseball team, according to a press release.

Good-Malloy was most recently the head football coach at , a position he held for the past two years, according to the release.

He is not only returning to his alma mater, but he returns to the team he helped coach several years ago. According to the release he was assistant coach of the Annapolis High football team from 2006 to 2008. During that time, he taught math and physical education at the school.

Prior to his stint at Glen Burnie, he was the assistant football coach at Salisbury University. He also was a recruiter, a track and field coach and a physical education instructor for the college.

As a player at AHS, Good-Malloy was a two-time All County player and a team captain and received the Al Laramore award as the county’s top lineman, according to the release.

Good-Malloy is taking up the reins after a dismal season and the .

Baseball

Bowles was most recently the assistant baseball coach at , according to the release. He also coached several Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams in the area.

He played at Great Mills High School and the College of Southern Maryland, finishing his playing career in the Professional Development Summer League in New York, according to the release.

, he said whoever the new coach would be will face several challenges, including developing a strong feeder system and meeting the need for enough players to contend with other powerhouse county teams.
