Annapolis Memorial Day 2018 Parade, Plus What's Open, Closed

Annapolis Memorial Day parade details; Anne Arundel County schools have schedule changes for Memorial Day on May 28.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Several Memorial Day observances are planned in Annapolis Monday, May 28, to commemorate the holiday, including the annual Annapolis Memorial Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. The parade follows the traditional route along West Street, traveling around Church Circle, down Main Street, and ending at City Dock. Marching bands, as well as veteran, community, and patriotic organizations will be part of the parade honoring and remembering those who have died serving our country.

Immediately following the parade, Mayor Gavin Buckley and several service organizations will participate in the annual wreath laying ceremony at Susan Campbell Park. This ceremony is open to the public and all are welcome. For more information about the parade, call 410-263-7996.

The county's Veterans Affairs Commission is partnering with American Legion Post 141 for a memorial service with guest speaker Heather Shreve, author of "Once a Colonel." The event will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, at the Annapolis WWII Memorial, 1920 Governor Ritchie Hwy. in Annapolis.

In honor of Memorial Day on Monday, May 28, City of Annapolis government offices will be closed. Refuse and recycling will be affected on both Monday and Tuesday, May 28 and 29, by moving the normal collection day back to the next day. If Monday is your normal collection day, service will occur on Tuesday. Tuesday's collections will occur on Wednesday. Regular refuse and recycling will resume on Thursday, May 31. There will be no yard waste or bulk item collection on Wednesday, May 30.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools will close all school buildings, along with central offices, on Monday for the holiday.

In addition, all Anne Arundel County government offices and Senior Activity Centers will be closed Monday for the holiday. All Anne Arundel County Public Library locations will be closed Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

Trash, Recycling Collection

The county's Department of Public Works, Waste Management Services, will have changes to curbside collection schedule and hours at the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility and the Northern, Central and Southern Recycling Centers for the Memorial Day weekend.

  • Monday, May 28 - NO Curbside Collection – WMS Facilities Closed
  • Tuesday, May 29 - Curbside Collection Provided to Monday Customers & Facilities Open
  • Wednesday, May 30 - Curbside Collection Provided to Tuesday Customers & Facilities Open

Mayo Beach Park
The park is open to the public open days, on most Sundays from Memorial Day until Labor Day, and is free and open to the general public. Visitors on open days can pack a lunch, bring their canoe, kayak, windsurfer or paddle board and enjoy a beautiful afternoon. A shallow beach area is available for water play and wading.
Mayo Beach Park is located at 4150 Honeysuckle Drive in Edgewater, is alcohol free during public access, dog leash laws apply and there is no open grilling or fires allowed.
