ANNAPOLIS, MD — Being out of school and away from friends has been hard on kids. Staying apart has been challenging for adults, too. So one morning, Danielle Lawrance decided to walk her daughters Olivia and Emilia to the end of their driveway so could be social safely with their neighbors. The trio decided to recite the Pledge of Allegiance together, something that everyone would recognize.

"I needed these kids to have a normalcy and I needed it," Danielle Lawrance told WBAL.

As more and more neighbors joined the Lawrances, it's become a ritual for them, a way to connect during a difficult time. They have been doing this every morning ever since, right there on their cul de sac.

"It just warms our heart. We're a military family and we consider these people our shipmates, which is a very endearing term in the Navy," said Kathie Morrison.

"We start with a conversation every day and do our Pledge of Allegiance, and then we continue our conversation for a few minutes -- just let each other know, if anyone needs anything, just to contact each other," said Donna Johnson.
