Annapolis Police Identify Burglar Who Jumped Out 3rd-Floor Window
An Annapolis Police officer fired his weapon at the scene of a burglary; a Pennsylvania man has been charged in the break-in.
ANNAPOLIS, MD —Annapolis Police have released the name of a burglary suspect who jumped out a third-floor window and was injured in the fall. During the response to the burglary report, an officer shot his weapon early Sunday morning; investigators say they don't yet know why the officer fired.
The suspect — Kevin Leyland, 22, of Pennsylvania — was found on the third floor of the house in the 100 block of Duke of Gloucester Street. He reportedly ran from officers, broke a window, climbed out of it, and dropped to the ground where officers caught up with him. Leyland resisted officers and tried to run, but was apprehended, police say.
Leyland was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital later Sunday and was charged with fourth-degree burglary, resisting arrest, trespass, disturbing the peace, and destruction of property.
