Annapolis Shooting Victim Dies, Mayor's Reaction To Murder
Annapolis authorities say a man gunned down outside his Bay Ridge Gardens apartment is the city's first murder in a year.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis man was fatally shot outside his house Tuesday night in what authorities say seems to have been a targeted attack. Annapolis Police say Kory Johnson, 27, of Bens Drive, was shot just before 8 p.m. There have been no arrests in the first murder recorded in the city limits since November 2017.
Johnson was taken to the hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Amy Miguez told the Capital that Johnson was shot in the torso while he was in front of his Bay Ridge Gardens apartment. Investigators are working to find the shooter and determine why Johnson was targeted, she said.
Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide and ask anyone with information to contact them at 410-260-3439 or anonymously through Metro Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP. If your tip leads to an arrest or indictment you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Mayor Gavin Buckley issued this statement on the murder:
“I am saddened and heartbroken to learn of the senseless violence that has taken a human life, Kory Johnson, in our city last night. The City of Annapolis’ condolences and prayers are with the families, neighbors, and children of Bay Ridge Gardens, who suffer the profound sense of powerlessness, loss, and fear that visits us when tragedy strikes. I join you in that sorrow.
“Every homicide is a tragedy that traumatizes neighborhoods and the people who live there. We must continue to combat the root causes of crime to deliver on our goal to bring community safety to all Annapolitans.
“Our efforts have always focused on interrupting violence now as it is occurring and preventing future violence, by investing in people and in communities. Our holistic approach of addressing the complex and multiple risk factors associated with violence in our communities has contributed to a significant decline in homicides this year. We are determined to continue building stronger relationships by improving the health and vitality of all our communities throughout Annapolis.
“As the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so eloquently reminded us, ‘Never succumb to the temptation of bitterness.’ We will heal and we will move toward preventing the senseless act of taking another’s life.”
