DC Police Officer Charged In Anne Arundel Road Rage Case: Police

An Annapolis woman who is a DC police sergeant was charged with assault after what police said was a road rage incident on Route 50.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland State Police arrested an Annapolis woman who is a D.C. police sergeant following a felony assault with a firearm on U.S. Route 50 that authorities said stemmed from a road rage incident in early December.

Kaila Crews, 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with first- and second-degree assault and use of a firearm in a felony crime, state police said in a news release. She was taken to the Jennifer Road Detention Center.

Crews is a patrol sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Department's First District, NBC Washington reported. She was off duty at the time of the encounter.

On Dec. 18, troopers from the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack responded to westbound U.S. Route 50 near I-97 for a report of a road rage incident. The victim told troopers a suspect brandished a crowbar and a firearm during the encounter, officers said. The victim was not hurt in the incident

Crews was arrested Dec. 31 by Maryland State Police near her residence. Police served a search warrant on her vehicle and found a loaded firearm in a backpack on the front passenger seat, according to a news release.

NBC reported that Crews told police she was the victim of road rage and the other driver “terrorized” her for 15 minutes, court documents said.

The Metropolitan Police Department said Crews has been placed on administrative leave.

The Maryland Department of State Police said it actively addresses all reported incidents of gun violence on state highways.
