Anne Arundel County Schools Change Schedule For Jan 4

Anne Arundel County Schools are closed on Jan. 4 and plan to open two hours late on Jan. 5.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — With 2 to 3 inches of snow and bitter wind chills across the area, Anne Arundel County Public Schools are closed on Thursday, Jan. 4, and will open two hours late on Friday, Jan. 5. In an alert to parents the school system said a Code Red is in effect for employees. Unit III personnel must report to their work locations as required.

As previously announced, all schools will open two hours late on Friday, Jan. 5. The delay is due to the forecast for extreme conditions that could adversely impact walkers and students at bus stops, as well as to allow time for facilities personnel and bus contractors to deal with weather-related issues.

On Friday there will be no morning half-day pre-kindergarten or ECI classes. Students in full-day pre-kindergarten classes will have class, and should report to school two hours later than normal.

Weather officials urged Marylanders to prepare for a potentially dangerous commute Thursday morning as a winter storm forms in the Atlantic. What forecasters are calling a "bomb cyclone" is expected to deliver blizzard conditions along the East Coast, including Maryland's Eastern Shore. Various parts of the state may see snowfall from an inch to 12 inches, weather officials say.

"Plan ahead and allow extra time to get to your destination if traveling late Wednesday night or Thursday," the advisories say. With the high temperature on Thursday in the mid 20s, weather officials advise that snow will stick to roads and sidewalks.
