Arrest Made in Teen's Stabbing: Annapolis Crime Report

Good News – On 12/04 detectives from the Annapolis Police Department arrested Melvin Urrutia, 24, of Annapolis on a warrant for attempted murder. The warrant stemmed from the stabbing of a 17-year-male from Annapolis on 10/28. On 12/03 at 10:30pm Detectives looking for Urrutia located him in the 200 block of Hilltop La. Urrutia fled from Detectives and more officers and the Anne Arundel County Police helicopter responded to search for Urrutia. Urrutia was located in the 200 block of Farragut Rd at 1:15am and arrested without further incident.

Robbery – 700 block of Wells Av – 11/30 at 3:40am: A 19 year old man from Annapolis reported that four men punched and kicked him and took his wallet, Apple iPhone, and car key. The man knew some of the men who robbed him. Mario Mireles Ruiz, 19, and Jaime Mejia, 23, both of Annapolis were arrested on 11/30 and 12/01 for this robbery. Both were charged with robbery, assault, and theft and are being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on bond.

Burglary – 1800 block of Bay Ridge Av – 12/03 from 8am to 5pm: The front door to the home was forced open and an Apple MacBook Pro and Nikon D3500 camera and 35mm lens were stolen.

Holiday Crime Prevention Tips

Burglars view the holidays as an opportunity to steal cash, credit cards, and gifts from your home. To help prevent burglaries make sure your doors and windows are locked, even if you are leaving for just a few minutes. Make sure you don’t have a spare key to your home that is easily accessible to burglars. If you are going to be away during the holidays have your mail held, have a neighbor check on your house, and put lights on timers to turn on and off automatically. After the holidays avoid putting empty boxes from your new computer, game console, etc out on the curb for pick up. If possible, break down the boxes and put them inside your recycling container. Burglars love to know what expensive gifts you have inside your home for them to steal. If you see suspicious activity, report it to police at 410-268-4141.

Toy Drive

The Annapolis Police Department is accepting new, unwrapped toys to be given to local children this Christmas. Toys should be appropriate for children ages 6 to 8 years old. Drop off your toys Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. The toys will be given to We Care and Friends and the Annapolis Santa Run.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting

The next Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Annapolis Police Headquarters, 199 Taylor Ave. This meeting’s topic will be “The Year in Review”. We will be highlighting the good, the bad, and the stupid crime highlights from 2014. Everything from homicides to half-marathons, we’ll cover it all. Food will be served so please RSVP to Cpl.
