9-Mile Backup At Bay Bridge: MDTA

Two crashes added to major delays around the Bay Bridge on US 50, the Maryland Transportation Authority advised.

Two crashes coupled with two-way operations at the Bay Bridge on Friday afternoon led to major delays for drivers headed toward the Eastern Shore. There was a 9-mile backup on US 50 east as of about 5:15 p.m. on Friday, May 3, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA).

Multiple vehicles crashed on the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge before 3:15 p.m., causing an injury and closure of the left lane, the MDTA reported. While all lanes had reopened by 4 p.m., officials said that there was a 7.5-mile backup by that time, with traffic stretching to the Admiral Drive overpass.

Around 2:30 p.m., the MDTA said that two-way operations went into effect, and delays on US 50 east were about 5 miles, as backups started around the Severn River Bridge.
