Boy Hospitalized after Hit and Run Accident

Anne Arundel County police say a boy was hit while riding his bike in Laurel with his father. The driver fled the scene.

An 11-year-old boy riding bikes with his father Saturday night in Laurel is in the hospital after he was struck by a minivan whose driver did not stop.

Anne Arundel County Police say the accident happened about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel.

The boy was riding his bicycle with the flow of traffic in the roadway on westbound Whiskey Bottom Road. No sidewalk was available on the westbound side, police say.

The child was struck from behind by a vehicle and was thrown from his bike. The suspect vehicle – described as an older model red minivan with tinted windows, unknown tag, possibly with damage to the front end -- then fled the area toward Brock Bridge Road.

The boy was taken to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Emergency Department, where he is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
