Boyfriend Who Stabbed Woman Sent To Prison For Her Murder

A Glen Burnie man who fatally stabbed his girlfriend, and wounded her daughter, has been sentenced to prison for the murder.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A Glen Burnie man who stabbed his girlfriend to death, and wounded her daughter, was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole for the murder. Michael Carroll Wilson, 44, pleaded guilty on Nov. 13 to murder and second-degree assault, which carried an additional 10-year prison sentence.

Charlotta Lynn Barkley, 46, of the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court suffered severe trauma to her upper body, and died from her injuries May 8, 2016, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, police said. Her daughter, who tried to intervene as Wilson chased both of them while police were en route, also suffered cuts to her arms; she was treated for her injuries at BWMC and later released.

"Michael Wilson is a domestic menace who brutally attacked his girlfriend," said Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Wes Adams in a statement. "I'm grateful to Judge (Michael) Wachs for carefully reviewing the facts of this case, as well as the defendant's extensive criminal history, and sending a clear, unmistakable message to domestic abusers by sentencing Mr. Wilson to life without parole ."

Anne Arundel County Police said Wilson had an on-again off-again relationship with Barkley for several years. When the couple argued May 7, 2016, at an apartment in the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court, Wilson began pacing. Barkley told her daughter to get dressed so they could leave for the store. As they walked out of the apartment, Barkley called police to request assistance. Wilson followed the women to their vehicle, but prosecutors say when he heard sirens, he chased Barkley and eventually attacked her with a knife.

When Barkley's daughter attempted to intervene, Wilson stabbed her in the hand, and continued stabbing Barkley in the back and upper body area before he ran away. Both women got into their vehicle and drove to the hospital. Although she was immediately administered emergency treatment, Charlotta Barkley died shortly after 2 a.m.
