Brandenburg to Resign from County Board of Education

Amalie Brandenburg announced Wednesday that she will resign her seat on the Anne Arundel County Public School Board of Education effective on Nov. 30 in order to pursue another opportunity.

Brandenburg said she submitted her letter of resignation to Gov. Martin O’Malley’s office.

“In everything I have done in my seat on the board, I have tried to broaden the discussion of education and focus on the positive impact our school system has on everyone in our county,” she said. “I am proud of my contributions to the board, and excited about the direction in which our school system is headed.”

Brandenburg was appointed to a five-year term on the board in July 2011. Three of her four children are students in county schools.

Brandenburg’s resignation will leave the board with just seven members. Former member Andrew Pruski resigned in July to pursue the County Council seat in District 4. The School Board Nominating Commission must forward at least two nominees for each seat to Governor-elect Larry Hogan for consideration. Hogan must make the appointments, along with one for the seat currently held by Kevin Jackson, whose five-year term ended June 30 but who continues to serve pending a new appointment. He and Laurel resident Julie Hummer are candidates for that seat.
