Broadneck Trail Receives $2.6M Grant For 2.5-Mile Extension

An additional 2.5 miles will be added to the Broadneck Trail between Peninsula Farm and Bay Dale roads thanks to a $2.6M state grant.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A $2.6 million Transportation Alternatives Program grant has been awarded to the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks for construction of an additional 2.5 miles of the Broadneck Trail between Peninsula Farm and Bay Dale roads. When work is completed, the entire Broadneck Trail will be six miles long and approximately 10 feet wide, connecting neighborhoods, parks and schools along College Parkway.

The goal is to create a path that connects from Cape St. Claire all the way to the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail. In addition to the local transportation and recreation benefits of this trail, the Broadneck Trail also has national significance. The American Hiking Society has included the Broadneck Trail in its vision for The American Discovery Trail, a trail that will extend from Point Reyes, Calif., to Cape Henlopen, Del. The Broadneck Trail’s ultimate connection to the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail will also make it part of the East Coast Greenway, another national trail extending from Maine to Florida.

The Hogan Administration announced more than $9 million in fiscal year 2020 grants to support bicycle and pedestrian safety and connectivity across the state, including the $2.6 million grant for the Broadneck Peninsula Trail.
