St. Anne's Parish

St. Anne's Episcopal Church will observe the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a musical series at the 10 a.m. Sunday services from June 7 - July 5. The church is located on Church Circle, Annapolis, Md. 
The music will trace the parish's journey from royal Anglican parish to Episcopal church in the American republic.
During the services, anthems by Thomas Weelkes, Richard Farrant, John Goss, Felix Mendelssohn, George Frideric Handel, and Gustav Holst will trace the Anglican inheritance that shaped St. Anne's founding and continued to nourish its worship after independence. 
Following each service, the organ postlude will feature music written in the American patriotic tradition: James Hewitt's The Battle of Trenton (1797), J. Christopher Pardini's Toccata on Amazing Grace ' (2001), Charles Ives's Variations on 'America' (1891), John Philip Sousa's march 'The Stars and Stripes Forever' (1896), and Dudley Buck's Concert Variations on 'The Star-Spangled Banner' (1868).

Beginning with the first European settlement at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607, until the 1775 battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, the Chesapeake region inspired interest among soldiers, merchants, and gentleman scholars in the Old World. Self-trained, amateur scientists like Thomas Jefferson fed that interest by committing their observations to paper. They sent letters and samples to correspondents in the Old World, most of whom held university degrees, at a time when education focused on classical literature and philosophy, theology, and the law.
These early Chesapeake scholars—whether roaming the countryside or making observations in their own gardens—are the intellectual ancestors of today’s citizen scientists, amateurs of all ages and backgrounds engaged in the advancement of knowledge through observation, measurement, analysis, and reporting of the world around them. This presentation explores that history from the vantage of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center’s Citizen Science in Archaeology program, participation in which is open to you.

Museum of Historic Annapolis

Long before the Stonewall Uprising, and far beyond New York and California, queer people have lived, loved, and shaped American history. From the nation’s earliest days, LGBTQ+ individuals have been part of Maryland’s story, even when their lives were pushed into the shadows. This guided walking tour explores over three hundred years of LGBTQ+ history, pairing familiar landmarks with often-overlooked stories: from a Revolutionary War general to an African American schoolteacher. Join historian Dr. Chris Mielke as we honor those who challenged norms, built community, and were brave enough to be themselves.
The tour will begin at The People’s Park at 44 Calvert Street and end at the Museum of Historic Annapolis at 99 Main Street. At the conclusion of the tour, a small reception will be held at the Museum, featuring light refreshments and an opportunity to continue the conversation.
Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as the tour is held rain or shine. The tour route is approximately 1.25 miles long and includes elevation changes and uneven walking surfaces.

Do you ever need extra motivation to go to church? St. Anne’s Episcopal Church can give you two reasons to make the extra effort to attend the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, June 14, at the church in Church Circle, Annapolis, Md.&nbsp;
One is a beloved tradition called the Kirkln’ of the Tartans. The other is a picnic.
The Chesapeake Pipes &amp; Drums and St. Andrew’s Society of Baltimore will lead this special service that honors Scottish heritage through the blessing of the tartans — the historic family symbols of Scotland.
The pipes and drums will lead the processional and recessional and perform during the offertory. Those who arrive a little early for the service or stay a little late can enjoy the bagpipes in the church yard. Those of Scottish descent are encouraged to wear their family tartan.
The Hospitality and Fellowship Committee also invites you to attend a picnic after the 10 a.m. service. Food and beverages will be provided. Hope to see you there.
