ANNAPOLIS, MD — Good news: The search has ended for the person who made off with a huge crab costume the night before Halloween in Annapolis. On Friday police tweeted that the costume has been returned and the owner does not wish to pursue criminal theft charges.

The 4-foot crab costume, known as Buddy C. Weed, is the mascot of Crabcakes & Cannabis, which sells pot-themed apparel and accessories, WTOP reports. The business had some fun with Buddy's exploits, posting online that several suspects had been identified and "we sincerely hope that Buddy is not sleeping with the fishes and believe that the perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the claw."

Friday afternoon the business noted that Buddy the crab was returned unharmed but a little dirty.

"We appreciate that a member of the involved party that stole Buddy came forward and apologized," the business said. "We want to thank the Annapolis community for being so supportive and spreading the word about Buddy's capture."

The costume was taken during a party Wednesday at Acme Bar and Grill in the 100 block of Main Street that was a collaboration with Crabcakes & Cannabis.

Our Original Story:

Police said the giant crab was last seen walking around town by some residents. Apparently the crab costume adorned with a bow tie patterned after the Maryland flag with matching pants was stolen from a business.

The crab is orange and tan and rather large. Annapolis Police officers posted information about the missing costume on their Facebook page, where others commented with sightings.

"Saw it walking downtown past Kilwins last night at 10 p.m. A bunch of midshipmen were with it. I don't know who was wearing it though. It was the only crab out last night lol," posted Rachel Ragone.

Anyone with information about the missing crab costume is asked to contact Officer Benson at 667-225-8154.
