New Speed Limit To Take Effect In Annapolis This Month

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Starting July 27, drivers in Annapolis will need to adhere to a new speed limit on Forest Drive.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works said the stretch of road between Bywater and Arundel on the Bay roads will drop from 40 mph to 35 mph.

The speed reduction comes after county officials launched a Forest Drive Safety Study, which found that the nearly 3-mile corridor has one of the highest crash rates in all of Anne Arundel County roads.

Of the collisions, officials determined that the majority were in relation to rear-end, left-turn, and pedestrian crashes.

Lowering the speed limit in the area was just one of many possible fixes that were highlighted in the road study.

Additional recommendations included new signalized crossings, bus stop relocations, and trimming back vegetation that encroaches on sidewalks, among other measures.
