Disgraced Politician Sentenced for Prostitution Convictions

Former Frederick County commissioner is convicted on three Anne Arundel County charges for responding to an online ad for sex.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A sobbing former Frederick County commissioner convicted on three prostitution charges after he was arrested in a sting near BWI Airport escaped any jail time during Tuesday's sentencing in Anne Arundel County District Court.

Blaine Ryan Young, 45, of Union Bridge, met an undercover police officer Feb. 18 who posed as a prostitute at a Linthicum area hotel in Anne Arundel County as part of a police sting. Young said on social media after the arrest that he has “demons to deal with and conquer.”

Anne Arundel County Police had placed an ad for prostitution services online. Investigators say Young responded to the ad, arrived at the hotel room, paid the undercover officer $60 to have sex and said he had 20 minutes.

Officers detained Young and he was later charged with four criminal counts, according to the police report. At trial he was convicted on three counts of arranging, soliciting and offering to procure a prostitute, while he was acquitted on a fourth charge of engaging in prostitution.

Young testified that he was seeking a massage for a bad back when he answered an adult ad on www.backpage.com for a “Smoking Hot Blonde, Fun Freaky and Fetish Friendly,” WTOP reports. But Judge Richard Duden disagreed, saying, “a 12-year-old boy can look at that ad and know what it’s about.”

Young previously served as a council member in Frederick County, and as a city alderman, the judge noted in sentencing Young to probation with the comment that his actions were out of character. If Young avoids legal trouble, WTOP says the convictions can be removed from his record. He was also fined $200.

“I’m just sorry and want to be a good citizen and get back to my community,” a tearful Young said in court.

The last couple of years have been tumultuous ones for Young, who is part of a prominent Frederick County family.

Young lost the 2014 race for county executive, reports The Frederick News-Post, and then announced at a county council meeting that he had been involved romantically for 18 months with a Frederick County budget officer while he was separated from his wife.

The newspaper reports Young’s relationship with the county employee – Regina Williams, who has since resigned -- has continued.

Young's Facebook page had a statement apologizing to Williams and his family for his actions. The post was later removed, but the News-Post says it read:

“I make no excuses for my actions as there are NONE,” the Facebook post said. “I am very very sorry to Regina, my children my family and friends. I am seeking and getting the help that I need.”
