Frantic Mother Reunited With Baby Ducks By Annapolis Firefighters
Annapolis firefighters helped rescue ducklings trapped in a storm drain, and then stopped traffic to get them safely home.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — When a mother is frantically trying to reach her trapped babies — whether they're animal or human offspring — Annapolis first responders spring into action. On Tuesday morning three members of the Annapolis Fire Department rescued give ducklings trapped in a storm drain, and then stopped traffic to get them to safer waters.
According to a Facebook post by the city, a resident called for help after noticing a mother duck "quacking wildly" and pacing back and forth at the site where her ducklings were stuck.
That’s when Lt. Michael Lonergan, along with firefighters Stephen Baer and Robert Amato, arrived at 507 South Cherry Grove Avenue to help reunite the mother duck and her babies. After freeing all five ducklings, the three firefighters took the extra step of following the family to a nearby pond "and … wait for it … stopped traffic to ensure they all made it across the road and into the pond," the city's post says.
