Free Fishing Days In Maryland: What You Need To Know

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Whether you're an experienced angler or have been looking for an excuse to give it a try, Maryland's got some great news for you: license-free fishing for a few select days in June and July!

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced its license-free fishing days this year in a press release. Every year, the first two Saturdays in June (June 2 and 9) and July 4 see license-free fishing.

According to the MDNR "During a free fishing day, a person may catch and possess finfish in the tidal and nontidal waters of the State for recreational purposes without an angler's license."

“Free fishing days are the perfect opportunity to give the sport a try before deciding whether to get a license,” Fishing and Boating Services Director David Blazer said, according to the MDNR website. “Fishing is open from the surf of the Atlantic Ocean to the mountain streams of Western Maryland.”
