Friends Of The Arts Awards $5,000 Scholarships To Annapolis College Students

Friends of the Arts of Annapolis recently celebrated two college students who were awarded $5,000 in scholarships.

ANNAPOLIS, MD - From Friends of the Arts Annapolis: Friends of the Arts recently celebrated two college students who were awarded $5,000 in scholarships.

Friends of the Arts (FOTA) of Annapolis, MD is a non-profit organization supporting organizations and individual students in the pursuit of artistic endeavors,The 35-member organization awarded a $2,500 scholarship to Heather Barry, who is majoring in nursing and minoring in studio art at Notre Dame University in Baltimore.

This the first time FOTA has awarded an art scholarship to a nursing student. “In her application, Ms. Barry expressed her desire to utilize her art education to provide medical therapy to pediatric patients,” said Ellenor Alvarez, FOTA president.

Ms. Barry eventually hopes to pursue art therapy as an addition to her degree. Ms. Barry is a graduate of Southern High School. Holly Condor, a fine arts student at the Maryland Institute College of Art, was also awarded $2,500. Ms. Condor, who prefers to paint with oils and charcoal sketching, is a graduate of Old Mill High School. The scholarship awards help to offset the student’s tuition.

Over the last eight years, FOTA has awarded $45,000 in scholarship money to 16 Maryland college students.

FOTA raises money for scholarships by hosting an annual card party and various other events. FOTA’s next event will be a tour on October 10 at the Kent Island Federation of Art followed by lunch at Rustico’s.
