When making a list of New Year’s resolutions, one local lingerie shop recommends women take a simple step for good health that can have a big impact on overall well-being.
“Eight out of ten women are wearing the wrong size bra,” said Patti Platt, owner of á la mode intimates in the Annapolis Towne Centre. “That can translate into more than just discomfort. If your bra doesn’t fit properly the weight of your chest is transferred to your neck and shoulders. An ill-fitting bra can cause shoulder, neck and back pain, impact your posture and affect your breathing.”
A woman’s bra size can change over the course of a lifetime due to fluctuations in weight, pregnancies, aging and many other factors. á la mode recommends a fitting at least once a year to ensure the greatest comfort. While there are many “bra fit formulas” online, formulas are only a general trend and not an exact science.

“The truth is that one company’s 36D might be another’s 34B,” said Platt. “A bra is your hardest working article of clothing. Women should not hesitate to seek the advice of a certified bra fitter and try on various sizes and styles from different brands.”
Free fittings by á la mode’s certified bra fitters are available every day by appointment or walk-in, but appointments are recommended to avoid waiting. The shop offers a wide range of bra sizes, from A to K cup and band sizes from 28 to 44. Sports bras and nursing bras are also specialty items for which á la mode provides fittings.
