A grand old time

Mardi Gras in Annapolis? The Naptown Marching Band, dancing dinosaurs, a magical umbrella, and a croc-dragon make it seem like it.

Mardi Gras in Annapolis? With the Naptown Marching Band, dancing dinosaurs, a croc-dragon, a magical umbrella aglow with lights, a traveling tiki hut, and a lit up faux sailboat, it sure looked like a mini-Mardi Gras.

Added to these exciting, wild and adventurous creatures and these mystical and magical objects were the luminaries that were created earlier in the day with love and imagination. One looked like a blue UFO hovering in the air with tails floating through the air or perhaps a blue jellyfish with lots of trailing tentacles. Another was created with silver tinsel covered with eyeballs. It glowed in the dark. Wrapping paper, paper lanterns, soda bottles, crepe paper, tinsel, bells and a plethora of other art and craft items made each luminary a unique and beautiful creation.

Everything came together for the Luminary Parade sponsored by the Germantown-Homewood Civic Association on Oct. 28. Some children and adults really got into the spirit of the event. A witch, unicorn, princess, and a zombie cheerleader were some of the many characters in the parade.

And, of course, there was lots of food – brownies, candy, cookies, cupcakes, snacks, and even some healthy veggies.

Thanks go to the volunteers with the Germantown-Homewood Civic Association who put on such a terrific event. Thanks for inviting the Admiral Heights residents and hint, hint … we’d like another invite next year.
