ANNAPOLIS, MD — The heat is wreaking havoc on more than just people's comfort levels. Because of a heat-related system failure experienced for half of the day July 19, the Maryland Office of the Comptroller experienced technical malfunctions for all statewide taxpayer services. The system interruption extended throughout the Annapolis complex, statewide branch offices, call centers and services accessed online.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, the office of the comptroller announced that services had been restored. The cause was a broken pipe, which required air conditioning in parts of the Annapolis government complex to shut off. The agency maintains automatic shutdown procedures to protect the overheating of critical equipment and to ensure data safety. The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) is responsible for all maintenance and operations state buildings.
