37 Residents Displaced By Fire At Spa Road Apartment Building

Fire burned a Spa Road apartment building Thursday afternoon, displacing 37 residents, Annapolis Fire officials said.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — No residents were injured, but 37 people were displaced from their homes when fire swept through an apartment building in the 1100 block of Spa Road Thursday afternoon, fire officials said. Firefighters found a fire burning on the roof of the three-story complex, according to a report.

Late in the afternoon Spa Road was closed in both directions for a time. The Annapolis Fire Department requested a second alarm for extra firefighters; a total of 83 firefighters responded. Crews from the Anne Arundel County Fire, Naval District Washington Fire and B.W.I. Fire Rescue departments provided mutual aid.

Fire crews rescued a resident on the first floor and several animals in the complex. Because of the fire's rapid spread, crews were evacuated for a time. It took about one hour to bring the fire under control, a news release said.
