The 10th anniversary Annapolis 9/11 Heroes Run was held Oct. 28 at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The run is held by the Travis Manion Foundation in more than 65 communities in the United States and abroad. Its goal is to make sure that the sacrifices of the heroes of Sept. 11 and the military, veterans, civilians and first responders since then are never forgotten.
This year more than 60,000 people are walking, running and for the first year, rucking in these events. About 1,500 participated in the Annapolis run this year, up from the 100 people who took three laps around the
stadium during its first year.
Many wore TMF T-shirts that said, “If not me, then who…” A speaker noted, “We are Americans. When we fall, we get back up.” The music, “Eye of the Tiger” boomed throughout the stadium.

The color guard from the United States Navy League Cadet Corps Training Ship Reina Mercedes participated in the opening ceremony. Runners included firemen, policemen, midshipmen, and military personnel.
Members of running groups and running enthusiasts also participated. Many groups carried flags with Team RWB serving as the rear guard “sweeper” crew to ensure no one was left behind on the 5K course.
Cheering them on were Annapolis and Anne Arundel County residents, veterans groups, local eateries such as Starbucks and Mission BBQ, the Baysox mascot (Louie), athletic and canine groups, and local businesses
such as a car wash, credit union and chiropractor.
