Heroin Worth $10K Plus $2K In Cash Seized In Annapolis Raid

An Annapolis man faces drug trafficking charges after police reportedly seized heroin, cocaine and cash from his apartment in a raid.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis man faces drug trafficking charges after police reportedly seized heroin, cocaine and cash worth about $13,000 from his apartment in a raid. A search and seizure warrant executed by Annapolis Police on Friday at an apartment in the 1100 block of Madison Street reportedly found 90.5 grams of heroin with a street value $10,860; 15.1 grams of powder cocaine valued at $1,510; and $2,143 in cash, three boxes of ammunition, and a digital scale.

Jarrel Ford, 22, who lived in the apartment, was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and other related charges, police said.

“This is an area in which we are going to be proactive and remove those who are causing the issues,” said Annapolis Police Chief Scott Baker in a news release. “We want people to feel safe in their homes and in their community.”

Just this week state health officials released updated statistics on the numbers of drug overdose fatalities in the first quarter of 2017. Anne Arundel County had 48 alcohol and drug-related deaths, up one from the same period in 2016. Overall, there were 550 fatal overdoses from January through March this year, an increase from 401 total fatalities the previous year.

“The Annapolis Police Department plays a critical role in combating the heroin and opioid crisis we are facing in Maryland,” Mayor Michael Pantelides said in a news release. “Every drug they get off the streets is a drug that will not get into the hands of our friends or family members.”
