Homeowners Jolted Awake When Car Plows Into House: Nearby News

An Odenton man was charged with DUI after allegedly driving his car into the front of a Crofton house.

Sleeping Crofton homeowners were awakened in the middle of the night when a car plowed through the front of their house.

Anne Arundel County Police say the accident was reported about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 2600 block of Salford Drive in Crofton. A 2015 Chevrolet Cruze that struck the residence at its front door was buried into the front of the residence up to the driver and passenger doors.

The homeowners were awakened by a loud noise from the front of their house. There was no sign of a driver in the car.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department determined the house was structurally safe, although it sustained heavy damage.

As police were trying to determine the owner of the vehicle, they received a report of a stolen vehicle. Officers met the caller nearby at the intersection of Justin Place and Jordan Avenue in Crofton. After speaking to the vehicle’s owner -- James Edward Johnson, 21, of 2028 Brigadier Blvd. in Odenton -- police determined that Johnson was the driver of the car that crashed into the nearby house.

Officers said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. Johnson was arrested and charged with DUI.
