Local writer Julia Collins has published Libby and the Shooting Star Wish Foundation, a children's picture book that encourages children to love learning, go after their dreams and always be kind. The book is illustrated by George Franco and is published by Sweet Bay Press.

In the story, we are taken on an outer space adventure as Mary’s little lamb, Libby, learns how to

exciting, dreams attainable, and kindness count for young children ages 4-7.

“I hope this book teaches children how kindness and curiosity can break down stereotypes,

promote inclusion, and help them achieve their dreams," said Julia. "In the world we live in today, I believe

this is an important message our children need to learn from an early age.”

Julia was inspired to write Libby and the Shooting Star Wish Foundation after

stargazing one evening with her family. Every night, Julia’s daughter requests two books, two

stories, and two songs before bed. That night, inspired by the sparkling night sky, Julia told a

story of a lamb who wished upon a shooting star and used education and kindness to make

friends and bring others together despite their differences. The rest of the story unfolded, and

Libby was born.

With acts of violence and terror in the news daily, Julia was called to publish her story in an

effort to promote inclusion, to break down stereotypes, and raise children with kindness.

Julia is a freelance writer who loves cooking, traveling, yoga, and the outdoors. She writes

marketing copy for education technology companies, human interest pieces about retirees, and

travel articles.

Julia graduated with a B.A. in Communications and French from Virginia Tech. She also teaches

yoga and is a mother of two curious 'little lambs' of her own. She and her family enjoy life on

Maryland's Eastern Shore.
