Man Critically Injured After Suspected Drunk Driver Runs Stop Sign: Police

An Annapolis man was reportedly driving too fast while intoxicated and his pickup crashed into a Ford Focus driven by a Glen Burnie man.

A Glen Burnie man was critically injured after his car was hit broadside by a pickup whose Annapolis driver was likely intoxicated, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Green Holly Drive at Chestnut Tree Drive in Cape St. Claire.

Police say a Ford F150 Raptor pickup driven by Martin Thomas Gorman, 41, of Annapolis was northbound on Green Holly Drive when Gorman failed to stop for the stop sign at Chestnut Tree Drive.

A blue Ford Focus turning left from westbound Chestnut Tree Drive and was driven by David A. Saul Jr., 25, of Glen Burnie. Gorman’s pickup struck the front driver’s side of the Focus and pushed it about 150 feet down a hill, coming to rest in the front driveway of 1215 Green Holly Drive, police say. The Focus also struck an unoccupied Chevy work van parked in the driveway.

Saul had to be cut free by firefighters and was airlifted to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with critical injuries.

Gorman suffered minor injuries, police say, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. The cause of the crash appears to be failure to stop for a stop sign, excessive speed and alcohol, authorities say.
