ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Residents will celebrate Maryland Day this Friday. More than 60 events in Anne Arundel County will honor the state's legacy and lifestyle.
Maryland Day marks the anniversary of when European settlers arrived in the state on March 25, 1634. The colonists disembarked their two small ships, the Ark and the Dove, that day on St. Clements Island in modern-day St. Mary's County.
The state first recognized the holiday in 1903. The Four Rivers Heritage Area of Anne Arundel County has commemorated the day for 15 years with free and $1 activities.
