Maryland Schools Rank Among Country’s Best: Study (ICYMI)
Maryland's school system ranked 16th in the country in a new study released by WalletHub.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — As parents get reay to send their kids back to Maryland's schools in a few weeks, they’ll find their school systems rank well against those in other parts of the country, according to a new study released by WalletHub. The state, in fact, ranked 16th best overall in a new study published by the personal-finance website
Hoping to gain a better understanding of the quality of education across the country, considering its connection to income potential, the personal-finance website took a look at 17 key metrics related to quality of education in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The metrics included such factors as pupil-teacher ratios, dropout rates, average SAT and ACT scores and more.
Once the numbers were crunched, Maryland schools ranked 16th best in the country, according to WalletHub.
Massachusetts earned first-place honors in WalletHub’s 2016’s States with the Best & Worst School Systems report. New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont and Wisconsin rounded out the top five.

In the two main metric categories, Maryland scored 13th in school system quality and 36th in school system safety to earn it 16th-place honors.

- Virginia – 7th
- Delaware – 9th
- Pennsylvania – 30th
- Washington, DC — 47th
Louisiana came in 51st place.
Earlier this year, Maryland school systems finished 16th in a national 2015 ranking by WalletHub.
And an April ranking by U.S. News and World Report of 21,000 public high schools across the country, again placed some Maryland schools among the best educations that America has to offer. Overall, Maryland was at the top of the list of states with nationally-ranked high schools.
