With snow on the ground, students participated in the Special Olympics' 'Cool Schools Challenge.'

Polar air caused Maryland weather to hit record lows this week just in time for some 1,500 Maryland high students to take a "polar plunge" into the Chesapeake Bay for the benefit of Special Olympics. It was called the "Cool Schools Challenge."

To participate, students raised money for youths with disabilities.

This is different from the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, which will take place Saturday, March 8.
