Annapolis Mayor Buckley's Mother Loses Battle Against Cancer
Pauline Brosnan passed away Feb. 3 in Fremantle, Australia, with Mayor Buckley at her bedside. He will remain in Australia for the burial.
ANNAPOLIS, MD â Mayor Gavin Buckley's mother Pauline Brosnan has lost her battle with cancer. She passed away Feb. 3 in Fremantle, Australia, Buckley's homeland. Buckley was by her side during her final days.
Brosnan is survived by her husband Terry; a sister, Annette Butler; Buckley, his wife Julie Buckley and their two sons Dash and Miles. She is predeceased by Paul Buckley, the twin brother of Gavin, who died from an undiagnosed medical condition at age 14.
Born Feb. 22, 1942, in Limerick, Ireland, Buckley's mother moved to London at a young age and grew up in the area of Wimbledon. She married in her early 20s and moved to South Africa where Gavin and Paul Buckley were born. The family later emigrated to Australia.

The proud "mum" traveled to the United States several times and was able to attend Buckley's inaugural ceremony in December 2017. She was photographed by Joshua McKerrow of The Capital newspaper pumping both fists in the air after he was sworn in.
âShe was always in my corner and I will miss her dearly,â said Buckley in a statement.

The mayor will remain in Australia for the burial this week. He will return to Annapolis Feb. 11. Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles has been designated acting mayor in his absence.
A registry book has been placed in the lobby of City Hall (160 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis) for those who would like to offer a condolence message to Mayor Buckley.
