Naval Academy Announces Formal Parade Schedule

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis is offering four opportunities to come watch the midshipman in a formal dress parade.

Annapolis residents have four chances to watch a formal dress parade of the midshipmen this fall, according to a press release.

The parades take place on Worden Field on the Naval Academy grounds at 4 p.m. on Sept. 21, Sept. 28, Oct. 10 and Oct. 19.

Each parade will have an official reviewer, but the Oct. 10 parade—which kicks off the academy's birthday celebration—will have three: Mayor Josh Cohen, Gov. Martin O’Malley and the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Mark Ferguson.

The Oct. 10 parade is called the Salute to the City of Annapolis, and honors the Naval Academy’s unique relationship with the city, according to a press release.

"In today’s military the reviewing official (reviewer) is a ceremonial function based on the days when the troops passed in review (marched) before the commanding officer to provide him an opportunity to observe the appearance and readiness of the uniforms, arms and equipment of his men," said Judy Campbell, a Naval Academy spokeswoman.
