Police Veteran Charged With Felony Assault Had Hit Teen: Report

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD — The 20-year veteran with the Anne Arundel County Police Department was hit with a felony assault charge after hitting a teenager, according to The Banner.

Citing charging documents, the outlet reported that Lt. Matthew Ploor had struck the 15-year-old daughter of his girlfriend after he heard the pair fighting. The teen is accused of hitting her mom and throwing a chair.

While the teen told investigators that Ploor had pushed her against a vanity and punched her in the chest, the police veteran said his arm landed across her chest as he deflected a punch from the girl.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, with charges announced in the case on Thursday.

Ploor is facing first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

A criminal investigation into the incident was launched after the Office of Professional Standards became aware of what had happened.

In a statement, Police Chief Amal Awad said the findings from the case were "concerning."

Per protocol, Ploor remains suspended without pay for the duration of the internal investigation.
